Personal History[]
Events of the Novels[]
A Breath of Snow and Ashes[]
Tsisqua first meets Jamie Fraser, a newly appointed Indian Agent, in the summer of 1773. The war chief conveys his people's desire to possess more guns, entreating Jamie to deliver this request to the King.[2]
Personality[]
He is good-natured with a sense of humor, as well as shrewd and intelligent.[2]
Physical Appearance[]
Tsisqua is described as a short man "shaped like a barrel"[2], and Jamie notes that he is young for a chief. When he accompanies Claire and the men of Fraser's Ridge to Brownsville, in order to deliver the body of Lionel Brown to his brother, Richard, Claire notes the various adornments in Tsisqua's hair, which include beads, bells, feathers, and a Chinese yen.[4]
Relationships[]
Tsisqua's brother is Still Water.
Name[]
Tsisqua is introduced as Bird-who-sings-in-the-morning; in Jamie's perspective, he is simply "Bird" for short. In the script for the second episode of the television adaptation, his full name is given as Tsiskwa Sunale Dikanogisgi[1] (Jee-SKWAH Shoo-nah-LEY Dee-kah-NOH-GEE-skee).
