Sir Richard Joffrey is a well-connected acquaintance of Lord John Grey.

Personal History[]

Sir Richard Joffrey is the older half-brother of Harry Quarry. By virtue of his marriage to Lady Lucinda Joffrey, he is a cousin to Robert Gerald.

By 1756, Sir Richard is a wealthy and influential member of the House of Lords and knows "everyone of note in both military and political circles."[1] He and his wife, the Lady Lucinda, frequently throw brilliant parties at their small but elegant white stone mansion, just off Eaton Square.

Lord John Series[]

Lord John and the Hellfire Club[]

When Grey returns to London after his turn as prison governor, he attends a party at Sir Richard and Lady Lucinda's house. It is later revealed that though George Everett killed Bob Gerald for his own reasons, others tried to use Gerald's death to discredit Sir Richard.

The Custom of the Army[]

Lord John Grey attends a eel party at the Joffrey house, but Sir Richard is absent.

Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade[]

Sir Richard attends the christening of Cromwell Stubbs, as his wife is serving as the child's godmother. He stiffens visibly at Cromwell's name and shoots John a sharp look, but otherwise makes no comment.

Personality[]

An excellent diplomat, though according to his wife, not particularly witty. Lady Lucinda says that Sir Richard has a great capacity for "not knowing things that it is expedient not to know."[2]
