Simon MacKimmie was the second husband of Laoghaire MacKenzie, and owner of Balriggan.

He was arrested a couple of years after the Jacobite Rising of 1745, and died in prison.

- Simon comes from Σιμων (Simon), the New Testament Greek form of the Hebrew name שִׁמְעוֹן (Shim'on) which meant "he has heard".[1]
- MacKimmie is an Anglicized form of the Gaelic Mac Shimidh, a patronymic from a Gaelic equivalent to the name Son of Simon.[2]
