Savannah is a large city on the coast of Georgia. At the time of the American Revolutionary War, it was the largest city in the Royal Colony of Georgia.

When Georgia became a royal colony in 1754, Savannah was chosen as the colonial capital of Georgia. In December 1778, the British captured Savannah as part of their Southern Strategy. The British held the city until July 11, 1782.

In November 1778, the Fraser-Murray family travels to Savannah in the wake of the printshop fire in Philadelphia. In spring of 1779, they leave Georgia to return to Fraser's Ridge.
Lord John Grey and William Ransom also decamp to the British-controlled Savannah in late November 1778, in the wake of the British forces' withdrawal from Philadelphia.
