Raphael and Michael O'Higgins are a pair of brothers who have found themselves in and out of the British army for years, staying in when it suits them and disappearing when it doesn't. They are not twins, but so closely resemble each other that they are able to impersonate one another, which comes in useful for finagling themselves out of trouble.

Personal History[]

As of early 1758, the O'Higginses had been recruited by the Duke of Pardloe's regiment, the 46th Foot.

Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade[]

In January of 1758, Lord John Grey is accosted by two stocky figures while crossing through Hyde Park. He speaks briefly to them, and they immediately desist and run, but not before Grey recognizes their voices in turn.

Later that year, Grey enlists the O'Higginses in a scheme to help Percy Wainwright escape from Newgate Prison.

Personality[]

The brothers seem to enjoy getting into and out of trouble, and do not scruple to take on dangerous or illicit jobs if it can profit them in some way.

Physical Appearance[]

Stocky figures with brown hair. Though Rafe is older, they resemble each other closely enough that it is difficult to tell them apart.

Name[]

  • Raphael comes from the Hebrew name רָפָאֵל (Rafa'el) which meant "God has healed".[1]
  • Michael is from the Hebrew name מִיכָאֵל (Mikha'el) meaning "who is like God?".[2]
  • O'Higgins is the anglicized form of Gaelic Ó hUiginn "descendant of Uiginn", a byname meaning "viking", "sea-rover" (from Old Norse víkingr).[3]
