Never My Love is the twelfth episode of Season Five and sixty-seventh episode overall of the Outlander television series.
Summary[]
Claire struggles to survive brutal treatment from her captors, as Jamie gathers a group of loyal men to help him rescue his wife. Roger and Brianna's journey takes a surprising turn.
Plot[]
Brianna and Roger awaken to find out their attempt to return to the 20th century failed. In the meantime, Claire is taken by the Browns and Marsali is left unconscious. Lionel Brown wants revenge for Claire's page in the paper about how to prevent a pregnancy, which was published under the name "Dr. Rawlings".
Claire is tied up and beaten by the Browns, and later raped by Lionel Brown and several of his men. In order to survive the ordeal, Claire imagines herself back in the 20th century with her 18th-century family around her, while "Never My Love" by the Association plays in the background. Eventually, Jamie and his men save Claire and slaughter all of Brownsville men. Lionel Brown survives, and they take him back to the Ridge for interrogation.
Claire arrives home traumatized and hurt. Lionel Brown, injured, is placed in Claire's surgery and is tended to by Marsali, who kills him by injecting him with a solution of water hemlock. Jamie takes Lionel's body back to Brownsville so that they can bury him. Richard Brown acknowledges that his brother probably deserved his fate, but there is still a hint of a threat in his parting words: "And you did what you must. So will I... when the time comes."
Back on the Ridge, life goes on and Claire and Jamie consider the future, knowing they will soon face another war. One night, while lying in bed, Jamie asks Claire, "How do you feel?" and Claire simply says, "Safe." She falls asleep in Jamie's arms.

- The storyline of Claire's kidnapping and rescue was adapted from Chapters 27 through 29 of A Breath of Snow and Ashes. There are a few important differences between the original and the adaptation:
- Lionel Brown actually opposed taking Claire in the books; he did not want Jamie to find out he was involved in taking Claire, rightfully fearing retribution. He did not assault or rape Claire, though he eventually did favor killing her, in order to conceal his involvement from Jamie.
- The adaptation invented Claire's "Dr. Rawlings" pseudonym, and used it as Lionel's motivation for taking and assaulting Claire.
- The adaptation folded Lionel's character into that of Arvin Hodgepile, the leader of the gang of men pillaging the backcountry and burning settlers out of their homes. Hodgepile attacked Claire and Marsali at the Frasers' malting shed where they made whisky, demanding that the women hand over all of their product. Upon being informed that the whisky was stored at a distant, secret location, Hodgepile took Claire and ordered her to lead them to the secret whisky cache.
- In the book, three men assault Claire in the night: first, one of the teenage boys fondles her breast and ejaculates on her; Harley Boble, who had been publicly humiliated by Jamie a few years earlier, hits and kicks Claire, causing severe damage to her face and body; and a nameless man rapes her.
