Personal History[]

Nasonby has been working for Hal and the Grey family since at least 1744, first as a footman and later as a butler. He is a senior and trusted member of the household.

Lord John Series[]

A Fugitive Green[]

Nasonby was a footman at Argus House when Esmé Grey died. He is close at hand as Hal mourns, bringing him coffee and offering unspoken support. Despite being ordered to go to bed, Nasonby stays up to attend to Hal during his sleepless nights. Hal finds his silent presence soothing.[1] At the time, the family's butler and Nasonby's de-facto supervisor was Mr. Sylvester.[2]

Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade[]

Nasonby continues to work for the Grey family, and is there to admit Lord John when he arrives at Argus House early in the morning.[3]

The Scottish Prisoner[]

By 1760, Nasonby has been promoted to the more senior position of butler. He is there to open the door when Jamie Fraser arrives, and is visibly annoyed when Jamie and the soldiers leave footprints along the house's polished wood floors. He continues to be wary of Jamie during the latter's stay at Argus House, but behaves with complete professionalism as Hal, Jamie, and John plot their next move with Edward Twelvetrees. He later breaks his ankle falling down the front steps of Argus House.[4]

Personality[]

He is tactful and efficient.

Physical Appearance[]

He is described as a small, neat man.[5]
