Le Havre is a port city in Northern France. The city's strategic location made it an ideal outpost for French trade and transport. In the Outlander series, Jamie and Claire travel from the Abbey of Ste. Anne de Beaupré to Le Havre to meet with Jared Fraser. The pair later return to Le Havre on their way to Paris.

History[]

Located at the mouth of the Seine, Le Havre had been occupied by humans for at least a millenia, but was established as a port city in 1517. One of the Northernmost cities in France, it was ideally placed for shipping and transport to various parts of the British Isles and beyond. During the 17th and 18th century, it served as a major hub for products like cotton, sugar, and tobacco, as well as for enslaved people.

As other forms of transport became increasingly cheaper, Le Havre transitioned to increasing industrialization. The city was heavily bombed in World War II, and remains an highly industrialized and primarily working class city.
