Gordon Dunsany was the only son of Lord and Lady Dunsany and brother to Isobel and Geneva. Gordon was killed at the Battle of Prestonpans.
Personal History[]
Gordon had been the heir to Lord William Dunsany and at one point was friends with Lord John Grey. During the Jacobite Rising of 1745, Gordon had bought his commission as a captain in Bolton's regiment. He was killed during the Battle of Prestonpans.[2]

Lord John recalls the Dunsanys' grief at the death of their son while visiting them for Geneva's funeral. He recalls that he had been a regular visitor to Helwater since the early days of his commission, when Gordon had invited him to stay.

When Lord Dunsany asks Lord John to agree to be young William's legal guardian upon his death, John recalls again that after Gordon had died, the Dunsanys had treated him like an adopted son of the family.

- Gordon is from a Scottish surname which was originally derived from a place name meaning "spacious fort".[3]
- Dunsany is the name of a title in the Peerage of Ireland, as well as a castle in County Meath. It comes from the Irish Dún Samhnaí.[4]
