Events of the Novels[]

Dragonfly in Amber[]

Following Claire's dangerous pregnancy, Faith was stillborn in Paris at L'Hôpital des Anges. The midwives made Claire hold the child, whom they wrapped in a length of white satin. Faith was very small but perfect. Mother Hildegarde baptized her, giving her the name Faith, and had her buried at the cemetery at L'Hôpital des Anges.

Voyager[]

In 1766, while Jamie, Jared and Mr. Willoughby have errands to do in Paris, Claire uses her own time to visit L'Hôpital des Anges, where she is delighted to find that Mother Hildegarde is still alive. Claire visits Faith's grave, where she leaves a single pink tulip from Jared's conservatory, and is surprised at how emotional she feels after all this time.

Name[]

  • Faith comes simply from the English word faith, ultimately from Latin fidere "to trust".[1]
  • Fraser may be derived from Fredarius, Fresel or Freseau. Another suggestion is that the Frasers were a tribe in Roman Gaul, whose badge was a strawberry plant.[2]

Trivia[]

Faith has slanted eyes and copper hair like her father, Jamie Fraser.
