Evan Lindsay is a former inmate of Ardsmuir Prison, and one of the first settlers on Fraser's Ridge.

Personal History[]

Born to Alexander Lindsay of the Glen, [1] Kenny is one of three brothers who were all imprisoned at Ardsmuir Prison after the disastrous Battle of Culloden. It was there that Evan and his brothers met Jamie Fraser. They later settled at Fraser's Ridge.

Events of the Novels[]

The Fiery Cross[]

Evan accompanies his brothers and other men from Fraser's Ridge as part of Jamie's newly-formed militia. On one of their first nights, he and his brothers shoot a quail for dinner.

At Hogmanay, Kenny plays the fiddle to accompany his brothers on bodhran and flute. Later, he and Murdo implore Jamie to perform the Highland sword dance.

In May 1771, Evan camps with the militia at Alamance. He accompanies Jamie and his brothers to find Roger after he goes missing.

After their return to the Ridge, Evan donates leftover pig slop to Claire for her penicillin experiments.[2]. Weeks later, the newly arrived Christies stay with him and his wife while their cabin is being built.

In July of 1772, Evan's sister-in-law Rosamund Lindsay dies from a severe allergic reaction to Claire's penicillin treatment, applied after amputation of Rosamund's thumb as the result of an axe wound.

A Breath of Snow and Ashes[]

Evan and his brothers are part of Claire's rescue party, and subsequently guards the road to Brownsville due to fears that the Browns will attack the Ridge. He also accompanies Jamie to Wilmington to join the revolutionary militia.

Personality[]

Like his brothers, Evan is genial and fiercely loyal to Jamie.

Physical Appearance[]

Described, along with his two brothers, as being homely as a toad. [1] He is bald.[3]

Name[]

  • Kenneth is the Anglicized form of both Coinneach (from Gaelic caoin "handsome") and Cináed (means "born of fire" in Gaelic).[4][5][6]
  • Lindsay is a Scottish habitational name from Lindsey in Lincolnshire, England.[7]
