Crusoe is a groom at Helwater, working alongside Jamie Fraser (who he knows as "Mackenzie") and head groom Hanks. He appears to dislike Hanks.
Sometime before 1760, Crusoe got into a fight with a blacksmith’s apprentice that left him with a broken nose and two black eyes. He avoids going into town after that.
Sometime between April and October of 1760, Hanks falls off a ladder and breaks his neck. He dies instantly. Crusoe is one of those who helps move the body. He does not seem upset, telling Jamie later that the death was quicker than Hanks deserved.[1]
Crusoe hopes to take over as head groom after Hanks' death. It is unknown whether he succeeds.
