Broch Mordha is a small village in the Scottish Highlands, on the border of MacKenzie and Fraser clan lands.
History[]
The village sits on the border of Fraser and MacKenzie clan lands, and has nominally changed hands a number of times over the years. In 1718, Dougal and Colum MacKenzie deeded a parcel of land that included Broch Mordha to their sister, Ellen MacKenzie and her new husband, Brian Fraser.[1] Their manor house, Lallybroch, was built about 10 miles[2] from the village of Broch Mordha. As of 1740, the village contained a parish church and a market square[3], and is surrounded by about sixty crofts.[1]
By 1980, Broch Mordha is still in existence, though its boundaries have likely expanded in the intervening centuries. The village contains a village school, at least one pub, a post office,[4] and a disused church.[5] Most of the students at the village school were drawn from the surrounding farms or the village itself.
