Annalise de Marillac is a French aristocrat. She was the object of Jamie Fraser's infatuation in 1739, when he attended the University of Paris.
Personal History[]
A beautiful and charming young woman, Annalise caught the attention of many a young man in Paris, including the young Scotsman, Jamie Fraser. On one occasion, Jamie caught another young man, Charles Gauloise, kissing Annalise, and Jamie called Charles out for a duel. Even though duelling was illegal in Paris, Charles accepted the challenge. He selected smallswords as the weapon, and the Bois de Boulogne for the location. The two young men duelled, and Jamie won by drawing first blood, but Annalise, having watched the fight, ran to Charles rather than Jamie, and married him a month later.

- Marillac likely originates from the French commune Marillac-le-Franc. The placename "Marillac" traces back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Marillius which, together with the suffix -acum, forms the word Marilliacum, "Domain of Marillius".[9] The Marillacs were originally a prominent family of the Auvergne region of France.[10]
- Gauloise is the feminine form of Gaulois, which is a French demonym meaning "someone from Gaul".[11]
