Very true Jamie does seem to connections to things through his dreams and Jenny has some ability as a Seer. Perhaps there’s more to the Fraser’s than we know?
Marie, you could be right, it could be his ghost watching over her. Perhaps he is her guardian angel in life, keeping her safe as she grows up. He’s making sure she’s where and when she needs to be to find him, perhaps? 🤔 🧐<- I love thsee 2 emojis! lol 😂
I use to be able to drink coffee day and night but when I hit my late 30’s something changed. Kevin would be able to tell if I drank caffeine at night, because I’d get cranky and argumentative. It just wasn’t a good thing and my sleep got fragmented as well. So decaf after 3:00pm give or take half an hour. 🤷♀️
Marie I read the 🐝 Bee’s is coming out this year! 🥳
Martina, I received Pocket Coffee for Christmas from my German friend Dee. Then I found decaffeinated Pocket Coffee on Amazon for an evening treat! 😋 I have trouble sleeping if I have caffeine after 3:00pm. 😳<-me on caffeine at night. Lol 😂
My journey through life has taken me away from this wonderful group of people this season. Moving half way across country has overwhelmed me and waylaid me from keeping up with you all. Dave I want to especially thank you for your messages on Facebook, they were very inspired and beneficial for me. I definitely hope the producers and STARZ decide to add more episodes to next season. (I’m keeping my fingers crossed 🤞)
By next season my kitchen will be remodeled and enlarged and I will have time to spend on conversation. I will be able to finish re-reading books 4&5, no matter how I tried I never finished re-reading book 4. I’ll be sure to check in during Droughtlander to see how you guys are surviving. I hope the drought it’s not so long this time! 😁
Eva, I too feel Rollo to be underutilized in the show. I know actors can be upstaged by animals, but now we have a pointless animal actor. Rollo would have heard or smelled the Mohawks approach and there was no action on Rollo’s part. I will miss Ian’s smiling face at the beginning of season 5. I enjoyed episode 412 Marsali and Fergus breaking Murtagh out of jail, but all I could think of is Wylie E. Coyote with the trail of black powder. I found the scene on the front porch between LJG and Bree touching and fitting in this new storyline. Let’s face it the storyline has been altered and now has a life of it’s own and path to follow.
I noticed a comment that the Mohawk wouldn’t have spoken French and English. They had fought in the French and Indian Wars before this so they would most definitely have spoken some of each language.
By far my number one complaint for this season was that they seemed to be unable to give us a way to tell how much time passed between episodes or even within the episodes themselves. This lead to the choppy episodes and lack of continuity. We never seem to know how much time passed ever, other than Claire saying the baby would be born by the time they get back.
I was pleasantly surprised how much Scotland does in fact look like Upstate New York so that worked well. However the long-houses would have been larger. They held several families at one time, and were more substantial and permanent looking. I grew up on the Mohawk River and there were remnants of a an Iroquois village located next to my mother’s home were she grew up. It was a corn field then and after the land was tilled each year you could find arrowheads and other tools used by them. It was quite the adventure for us kids to find something from that time period.
The writers spent way too much time on OtterTooth’s story. The episode seemed rushed because of that extended bit. Everything about this season seemed rushed, I can only hope they start next season where we were left off in this season.
Dave I think you’re right perhaps he is the the “pacing father” for Bree. It’s possible that he acquired the habit from Jamie. Whatever the reason I think it was a nice touch for these scenes. Also I like the Murtagh and Jacosta “Affair. It is unexpected and could lead to several possibilities. 🤔
There are a lot of adjectives to describe Frank.😁
I was only referring to the fact that from the beginning of both the series and the books Claire had suspicions about Frank faithfulness. Those who have read the books, Claire was questioning Frank’s fidelity in Chapter 1. In the series Frank’s questioning Claire’s faithfulness was an perhaps an opening for him to admit he had affairs during the War. Perhaps the standard “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander” could have come out in the conversation. Claire does mention in the show the second honeymoon was a chance to get to know the people they had become since the war. Things in their marriage were not working well since they were back together. I wasn’t addressing the later affairs, only that from the start Frank seemed to be a somewhat of a slime ball.
My Dad wouldn’t have us using his snow blower or lawnmowers, he spoiled his girls.🙂
I’ll take a snow blizzard over the May 3rd, 1999 Tornado in Oklahoma City. It was heading for Tinker AFB and my Husband was landing in a plane at the base. They were not diverted to another base and as he got home, the tornado just past over a corner of the base. That’s when I realized weather does what it wants and I have no choice but to live with the consequences. That tornado gave me the strength to know I could make it through anything the weather could ever throw at me. We lived there for 6 more years. Then we went to Little Rock AFB and I would not even notice the small tornadoes here. Jacksonville FL was hurricanes and now we’re back to tornadoes. I grew up in Upstate NY and I’ll take a blizzard and cold any day. Blizzards only throw snow not an entire house.
I can’t wait to see! 😁
I had ideas of how Murtagh would fit in to this season and being part of the Regulators wasn’t one of them. I’m wondering what’s going to happen now that he’s been caught while grabbing Bonnet for Jamie. I can’t see a way to have him end up taking Duncan’s place now. He sacrifices himself to let Fergus get away and back to his family. What happens next I cannot even guess. Will Jamie find a way to save him or not??
It’s in book 1 the end of chapter 1, “It was only later, listening to his regular deep breathing beside me, that I began
to wonder. As I had said, there was no evidence whatsoever to imply unfaithfulness
on my part. My part. But six years, as he’d said, was a long time.” - Outlander, Diana Gabaldon
Claire wondered even then if Frank had cheated during the War. I always felt that he did cheated on her and he wanted to justify it by asking her if she had. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, so to speak.
In my previous post I was on mainly speaking of the Frank on the tv series. The way they portrayed Frank and finding the obituary only redeemed him slightly very slightly in my mind. He wanted to protect Bree from time travel, knowing that Claire would eventually disappear from their time. I think he didn’t want Bree to be alone when Claire disappears. Frank knew Claire was going to leave at some point and wanted Bree to be with him when that happens.
As for Frank in both the books and the show, Claire speculates that he my have been unfaithful to her during the war. Because of this I have always thought of Frank as a less than faithful husband and a slime ball. Why bring up a question of fidelity with Claire, because someone was looking up at her window? That was a red flag to me that he had a few affairs during the war, once a cheater always a cheater.
Hello Sherry, I’m Laura or Laura Joan. I know we picked up another Laura and if it’s easier to differentiate between us Laura Joan is just fine. I now live just north of Little Rock, AR. But, I’m originally from Upstate New York near Albany. It’s always nice to have others join in with the conversations about Outlander, La Dame Blanche or Alex does her best keeping us on topic. We’ve had more than one conversation end up going on to non-Outlander topics and so we do have the choice to start discussions non-Outlander topics. I’ve been missing for a few weeks while out of town for the holidays a home in NY.
I can’t believe I’m about to write this but, don’t hate the change between the books and the series in regards to Frank’s death. They redeemed him to a degree, in my mind in the T.V. series. His research on Jamie and inadvertently Claire’s future death in the past, was possibly an attempt to insulate Brianna from Claire eventual disappearance. Also to keep Bree from ever knowing time travel exists and where Claire was going when she disappears suddenly from their lives. Thus keeping Brianna from knowing or thinking about the possibly of following Claire through the stones. There is some selfishness in Frank’s plans, as always, trying to keep Bree all to himself. That could have been part of Frank’s motivation to leave Boston with Bree and what’s her name. I even liked the scene between Brianna and Frank in the car before his accident the series was perfect.
Then after her passage through the stones to have Brianna briefly see him among the crowd on the dock as she left Scotland was a nice touch. I think most know that in general I dislike Frank’s character in the books or in the T.V. series. However the script writers surprised me and I felt that they redeemed Frank’s character a little in my mind.
I received a lovely message from Dave, checking to make sure all was well with me since I had been silent for a time. I hope you all had wonderful holidays with your families and friends. I’m sorry I’ve been missing from the discussions but, I was visiting my parents in Upstate NY for several weeks. Starting December 18th, through Christmas and until just after New Year’s. Since my Husband was working from December 15th - January 9th, flying cargo all over the country delivering piles of Amazon boxes or being one of Santa’s elves as I like to think. (His ears look kind of like elf ears) I was baking and wrapping gifts and eating cookies and pies and other festive tidbits. I’ve discovered I love pecan and mincemeat pie. My waist line wasn’t help by either, thank goodness for elastic waist pants.😋🥧🍪🍾
It’s nice to be missed. 😃!
Hello everyone! I’m sorry for not being around. I’ve been at my parents in NY since 12/19/18, and its impossible to keep up when you visit family. You have no “me” time. I will be weighing in on the episodes when I get caught up when I get back to AR in the next day or so. After I buy a new living room television, ours died just before I left. Off to the BX I go to get a cheap TV. I’ve watched the episodes on my iPad but this show must be watched on a big tv screen to truly appreciate it. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years! 🙂
