I posted this reply to another thread where more or less the same comment was made.
I love the books and the show and I expect both to progress logically, so as much as I like the passionate scenes b/n Claire and Jamie in their 20s and then when they reunited, B4, S4 and forwards are about a lot more than their desires for each other. Cait Balf herself said in an interview that they don;t shoot sex scenes for the sake of them, but rather to show a development in their relationship of some sort.
There are some good romantic scenes in B5 (Claire inviting Jamie to her bed when she is 100 and he is 96) and B6 (after her being rescued), but I am more interested in other developments of their relationship - for instance in S4 I missed the scene when they fought about aborting Brianna's child........ this scene would have revealed a lot - mind you Claire was scared Jamie will break her hand to stop her. Such a scene - at this stage of the show - is of more interest to me than another sex scene.
I am looking forward to seeing the time Claire was romanced by Wylie and Jamie got crazy as he felt offended himself(?), got drunk and gambled with her rings......then their relationship when Malva accused Jamie of having fathered her child......then them dealing with the realization that Tom Christie sacrificed himself out of love for Claire.......then Brianna being kidnapped...... then having to part with her family as they realized their grandchild has a heart defect that can be repaired only in the 20c.......then Claire's marriage to John and Jamie's return.......and last but not least Jamie surrendering his general's position in the army to be with Claire when she got shot.........I mean there is so much more than the sex scenes that can make the show full of suspense and intrigue.....which will take a fair amount of acting ......and that is what I am really looking forward to........
I didn't find S4 predictable - it followed the book mostly with some deviations (some I liked, some I didn't). I can't say how someone who has not read the book could have predicted what happened. I mean that for the show to go on things need to happen to make it interesting and if Claire and Jamie are in their 50s, then things need to happen around and with their children and family to keep the story going.............just the two of them fighting another war and having a lot of passionate scenes would be rather dull for me.........
