Other period pieces to watch.
This summer I have found on Netflix other period pieces that portray some aspects of the medical field in which Claire had known in the early 20th century. Also, I found a period piece that dealt with the American Revolution and other period piece about the fur trade in Canada that both Britian and America and the French all wanted in on.
First period piece that I enjoyed watching again and again was Turn: Washington's Spies. This series gives a great performance from the cast and the story of how we won our Independence from England. Watching the field hospital scenes demonstrated the kind of scenarios that Claire works under during the Revolutionary War while Jamie is fighting the British. Also, the series provides the daily lives of the…
reading another historical series
Recently as I was researching on Colonial America and trying to visualize the conditions of the life on Fraser's Ridge, I came across another book series by Anna Belfrage who writes a family sage of a Scotsman and his lady who was thrown into his world from the 21st century into the 17th century. Anna weaves a great story with the backdrop of religious conflict between England and Scotland. Those who refuse to pledge loyalty to the king move to the colonies to exercise their freedom to worship. there are some similarities between Outlander and her family saga. First of all there are more people who travel through time several times and some people travel once and stay. In Outlander book eight Bree and Roger are writing a book about time tr…
Update on outlander series
I have enjoyed this season of the Outlander series. I have watched each episode at least three or more times while waiting for the next episode. The acting is great. I have been responding on the Outlander series Facebook page as much as I can about some of the discussions with each episode. I look forward to each new episode as they are presented.
Outlander books
I have read the books twice and reading them a third time around but taking my time about it. I found the series Turn: Washington's spies on Netflix and watched the first three seasons twice and currently watching season four. The series is very good for historical background as the Outlander books reach the timeline of the American Revolutionary War as Jamie moves toward that point and Claire is the doctor for his company. Also this summer, I have been researching what colonial life was like for Claire and Jamie as well as the growing family they have. Outlandish Observations has provided some great visuals under the Friday fun facts.
Outlander, of course
Let's start at the beginning, shall we?
I've recently discovered the Outlander series by lovely author Diana Gabaldon and by recently I mean around the time the TV show finished airing the first season (spring 2015, let's go with that). So let me tell you the story:
I was in desperate need of a new TV show, something different from all the superhero and supernatural (vampire, werewolves and the such) themed TV shows. In my efforts, I stumbled upon this quite new show adapted from a book series that's set in the Scotland of the 18th century. Being a booklover, why not check it out? But who had the time to read the books?! Certainly not me. At least, not at the time. Overlooking the fact I didn't have the books, although I knew that my cousi…
New Main Page Layout
As you can see, the wiki's main page has a new layout. I designed it with old newspapers in mind ("A. Malcolm, Printer" anyone??) so that's why the main section is divided into two columns. What do you think? I've been fiddling with it for months, and decided to just bite the bullet and give 'er a test run!
Droughtlander
I'm certain I'm not the only one that's super eager waiting for Season Three. I mean with the announcements of David Berry as Lord John Grey, Wil Johnson as Joe Abernathy, John Bell as Young Ian and yesterday's announcement of César Domboy as Adult Fergus just makes this #droughtlander killing me. I love how casting for the series is always so on point. Sure there's little things that are a bit different, like John has lighter hair than Young Ian, but otherwise he looks a lot like I imagined especially in those eyes. Wil is just on point for Joe. David is just... good god drool is about all I can say for our all grown up Lord John. And César, lord yes he is soo Fergus and I could see enough similarities between him and Romann Berrux espec…
Season Two Finale
Alright so I am hoping that by now most have watched the Season Two finale episode Dragonfly in Amber.
Not Ready
So I'm sitting at the Starz Play app home screen looking at the option to watch The Hail Mary episode due to air tonight at 9pm EST live. I won't watch it yet, because my child is awake and I at least agree some of the content in Outlander isn't really intended for a 5 year old. But what pains me as I look at the episode is the knowledge that next week there will not be an episode and that the following Saturday (July 9th) will be Dragonfly in Amber (Episode) which will be the season finale. As excited as I am to see Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton as Roger and Brianna I'm equally sad that this will be the last of the season and I'll be returning to #Droughtlander till they announce an air date for Season Three.
I suppose I'll have to spe…
Outlander Renewed for Seasons 3 and 4
Starz Chief Executive Officer Chris Albrecht announced today the network has ordered two more seasons of Outlander, the critically-acclaimed original series executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international bestselling books. Once again partnering with Sony Pictures Television, this is the first multi-book pickup for Outlander, assuring the series will run for several more years. The highly-anticipated second installment of the series premiered on STARZ in April 2016.
Season Three will be based on the third of the eight books in the Outlander series, entitled Voyager, followed by Season Four based on the fourth book in the series, Drums of Autumn.
This is exciting news! Though there is no confirmation yet as t…
Healthy or Unhealthy Addiction?
My husband currently feels I have an 'unhealthy' addition to the Outlander franchise. I say it's a healthy one as my addition is only to buying books. It could be far worse. This topic of course only came up as I mentioned wanting to start buying the books containing the Lord John Series as well as the other novellas ("Virgins", "A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows", and "The Space Between").
Personally I don't see wanting to own the books as a bad thing. I just like the series and enjoy reading them. And, generally speaking, one of the books will cost me a fraction of what he spends on 1 video game. And just as video games are his entertainment and offers him a world to get lost in, the same is true for books.
Outlander/Dragonfly in Amber/Voyager
I must say that Claire and Jamie have the most horrible luck!!!! I have enjoyed these books so much to the point I think obsession has taken over and every free moment is with these two characters and their cohorts. I laugh and cry and hate to stop the story. I can't wait to know what is going to happen next.

Jamie throws QUITE a few punches in the series...so we needed to have some kind of punch on the menu. Also, the punc…

Outlander FAQ
I've decided to make my first blog post on this wiki, and what better content than the questions I see asked most frequently? I hope you find the following useful!
Note: This is mostly for those watching the series and haven't read the books, or those reading the first book for the first time. I'm not answering spoiler-y questions here, just clarifying a few points that are confusing.
How old is Jamie? How old is Claire? What is their age difference?
In the first book, Jamie has just turned 22, while Claire is 26 ½, when she meets Jamie. In the show, Jamie is 22 ½ and Claire has just turned 27. So, Claire is about 4 ½ years older.
When is Jamie's birthday? When is Claire's birthday?
Jamie was born May 1, 1721. Claire was born October 20, 1918.
